
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET Systems
If you’re running a high-speed PET line, you know the struggle. You need those preforms heated perfectly. But here’s the problem: if the heat only hits the surface and doesn’t reach the core, you end up with wonky wall thickness or, worse, bottles that just fail. We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to bridge that gap. That’s why we built our replacement lamps specifically for Husky HyPET systems. The trick to getting heat deep inside Think of it like this: to get heat into the center of a thick preform, you can’t just blast it with generic heat. You need the right infrared wavelength. We use high-density quartz glass and tweaked filaments to shift how the light emits. Instead of just scorching the outside—that “burnt skin” look we all hate—the radiation actually sinks deeper into the PET. The outside stays smooth, and the inside gets hot enough to blow properly. The hardware side of things You don’t need to rewire your whole plant to use these. They’re drop-in replacements. We matched the footprint and electrical specs of the OEM units, so they slide right into your existing oven racks. We also beefed up the connectors. Whether you’re running R7s or SK15 (depending on which HyPET generation you’ve got), these are built to handle the vibration of a high-speed line without arcing. The power is tuned for a fast ramp-up. High wattage means you get the heat density you need to keep your cycle times tight. Just a heads-up: keep an eye on your power supplies. If your voltage is jumping all over the place, it’ll eat through those filaments way faster than it should. A few things to keep in mind There’s always a trade-off. When you push more penetration power into the preform, you’re also dumping more heat into the oven cavity. It speeds things up, sure. But it puts a lot more pressure on your cooling blowers. If your cooling isn’t up to the task, the air around the lamp housings gets too hot, which can fry your wiring insulation over time. And please, for the love of your equipment, keep your reflectors clean. Dust on those mirrors is a silent killer. It kills your efficiency and forces you to run the lamps hotter than they need to be just to get the job done.
