Dealing with High Ceilings in Industrial Changing Rooms
Trying to heat a factory locker room with massive ceilings is usually a losing battle. If you use standard forced-air heaters, you’re basically just heating the roof. The warm air floats straight up, while your crew stays shivering on the floor. It’s frustrating and, honestly, a waste of money. That’s why we use shortwave infrared radiators. Instead of trying to warm up the entire volume of air in the room, these units beam heat directly onto the people and the floor. It’s more like standing in the sun on a crisp autumn day. How it actually works The magic here is speed. Infrared waves move at the speed of light, so the second someone walks into the room, they feel it. No waiting twenty minutes for the thermostat to kick in. But there’s a catch with high ceilings. The higher you mount the lamp, the wider the heat spreads, but the weaker it gets by the time it hits the ground. To fix that, we bump up the wattage. We use high-power emitters to make sure the heat actually reaches your workers instead of fizzling out halfway down. The nitty-gritty of installation You can’t just bolt these to the ceiling and call it a day. We use specific reflectors to aim the heat exactly where it needs to go. Also, keep an eye on your power. If you’re plugging these into a 380V or 400V industrial grid, these arrays draw a lot of current. You’ll want to double-check your load balancing so you don’t trip a breaker the moment everyone clocks in. And since factories are… well, factories, we use quartz or tempered glass for the lenses. They can take a hit and they don’t shatter. Just a heads-up: keep them clean. If dust builds up on the lens, it blocks the heat and can actually burn out the lamp. A few things to watch out for Shortwave infrared is incredibly fast, but it can create “hot spots.” If a worker is standing in one exact spot for an hour, they might feel too warm. The trick is to stagger the radiators. By spacing them out properly, you get a nice, even warmth across the whole room without anyone feeling like they’re standing too close to a campfire.
